SPRINGFIELD HIGH SCHOOL MASTER PLAN – DOCUMENTATION
A Message from Mario Cimino, Morton Borough Council President
This website contains all documents provided under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Act request submitted to Springfield School District by Morton Borough Council on behalf of all citizens and taxpayers of the Springfield School District. I direct your attention to the first document listed, which is the Springfield School District response letter to this Right to Know Act request. This letter details all of the documents which are provided here under the request. Importantly, it also explains the types of documents which Springfield School District has deemed exempt from public disclosure. You will note that many types of documentation particularly regarding the financial aspects of the proposed Springfield High School Master Plan are being deemed exempt from disclosure at this time. The 44 documents which were provided under this Right to Know Act request are provided here in their entirety for the benefit of the District’s residents. We hope the question you will ask yourself as this planning process works its way to a critical and monumental decision for our communities is this: Will the decision made at the end of this process be in the best interests of my family and my community?
Our communities are blessed with a broad array of very talented people working in all walks of life which relate to this project – business, finance, education, construction, government, law, and most importantly, effectively managing the lives of your own families and households. I respectfully ask all residents of our School District to apply their own life experiences to the Springfield High School Master Plan process by engaging in the public discussion that will be ongoing through next year. The documents contained here are provided as tools to help our residents do so with the most transparency possible. Morton Borough Council will continue to ensure that information which should be provided to the residents and taxpayers continues to be made public as the discussion continues, so that the outcome will hopefully be one that is in the long-term best interest of all of us.
Two things are very clear in this process: We all want what’s best for the children of our community, and we have limited resources to accomplish that goal, which is true of everything in life. The question each citizen must answer is whether the proposed Springfield High School Master Plan currently being considered will serve these aims. Or, on the other hand, will the plan as currently presented tie up too many of our precious educational resources in service to a building we may not need or be able to afford in the long run, leaving too few resources for innovative educational strategies, teachers, technology, diverse extracurricular activities, and competitive athletics in coming years?
My colleagues and I sincerely hope all the residents of Springfield School District will join us in making your voices heard at the Town Hall and School Board Meetings throughout this process. The dates of these meetings will continue to be listed on this website as well as the Springfield School District website, ssdcougars.org. As residents and taxpayers, please remember that you have the right to make your voice heard at these meetings, all of which are open to the public.
